Opportunity type: call for pitches
Throughout September, we're participating in the Back Indie Media Drive alongside over 30 other independent publishers. If you like our work and want to support independent media, join us today to help us reach our goal of 20 new members.

The Toronto Star is Canada’s largest daily print newspaper and one of Canada’s largest online news sites.

The publication's editor is always on the hunt for personal essays reflecting on a meaningful travel experience for its travel section.

Examples of past successful pitches include:

‘How the strangers I met on vacation became my most supportive, longest-lasting relationship.’

‘I’m a millennial who took a cruise full of septuagenarians. What they knew changed my life.’

‘Months after a near-death experience, I went on an adventure that reminded me of what I want to do in life.’

💡
NOTE from Yulia: While the Toronto Star is not the highest-paid publication (typical stories sell for $300 to $500 CAD), the editor is great to work with, and the publication's stories often win awards (the pub just won a Gold Lowell Thomas award from SATW). Consider it a great target publication for some of your more personal stories.
