Today on the show, we’re speaking with Lindsey Danis, a queer writer of fiction and essays whose writing has appeared in AFAR, Fodor’s Travel, Condé Nast Traveler, Longreads, and more.
Lindsey is the author of (Out) On the Road: The Radical Joy of Queer Travel and the founder of the LGBTQ+ travel platform, Queer Adventurers, that focuses on queer women and nonbinary people.
In our conversation, we discuss writing for LGBTQ+ audiences through a liberatory framework — and what liberation actually looks like in practice.
We talk about the concept of queer joy and why these stories aren't just for queer travelers, but for anyone interested in a more expansive and inclusive world.

(Out) On the Road:
The Radical Joy of Queer Travel
Lindsey's new book, (Out) On the Road: The Radical Joy of Queer Travel, is out this month.
Weaving personal experience with data and interviews, the book empowers LGBTQ+ travelers to face their fears, expand their comfort zones, find community, and thrive on the road.
It also offers readers a framework for planning travel, navigating risks, and becoming self-reliant.
A book proposal worksheet for writers that covers the major sections of your book proposal. Designed to help you organize your thoughts, identify your audience, clarify the two big whys any agent will ask, and make the strongest case for your book.
A checklist for allies that helps all travelers show their support of LGBTQ+ friends or family members, LGBTQ+ travelers on group tours, and ways to support local LGBTQ+ communities while you travel.
