Amid all the World Cup celebrations, last week was also a heavy one for many people in the Americas.

Between the terrible devastation caused by a series of earthquakes in Venezuela on Wednesday and the Supreme Court decisions allowing the current administration to strip temporary protective status from hundreds of thousands of Haitians and Syrians in the U.S. on Thursday, it has been a lot to hold.

If you want to help Venezuela, keep reading – below, I've compiled a list of organizations vetted by Venezuelans that are raising funds for the relief effort.

🏠 Inside Going Places

A peek into our member chats

Our member gathering last Friday was so good, I wanted to share it publicly on our podcast feed.

In only an hour, we went an incredible distance, discussing:

  • Where we're going: a road trip in Ireland, a two-month stay on the coast of Ecuador, a love affair with Florence, and a weekend in London
  • The Tictofication of places (like Florence, where our member Jess has observed unusual crowds flocking to a tiny artisan shop that's now struggling to keep up)
  • How artisans help us fight against the enshitification of life by making 1) one-of-a-kind things 2) slowly 3) by hand
  • How we make our creative work visible when we're burnt out from social media and digital devices (and should we even try to show up?)
  • Exhaustion from tech shared by many in our community – and what to do instead (for Going Places, this means more physical gatherings with our members!)

I was so excited to bring this conversation to you, but alas, the tech gods took our sentiment to heart: the recording... failed to record.

Our next community call is on Friday, September 18th, and it's open to all members.

Today, we're celebrating Holly Budge, founder of How Many Elephants and World Female Ranger Week, and our Going Places member.

To mark this year's World Female Ranger Week (Jun 23 – 29, 2026), Holly published an important piece on Adventure.com highlighting the struggles female rangers across the world face.

Holly writes: "At a time when conservation often celebrates the heroism of frontline ranger work, we rarely talk about how differently women experience that frontline. And yet, we are increasingly asking female rangers to help solve some of the planet’s biggest environmental crises."

This is an important read, and we couldn't be more proud of Holly and her work.

🌍 In The World

How to help Venezuela right now

Last Wednesday, June 24th, two devastating earthquakes struck northern Venezuela about 100 miles west of the capital, Caracas.

While the destruction of buildings and infrastructure in Caracas and other cities was immediate, the death toll will continue to rise in the coming days.

Close to 70,000 people were reported missing this weekend, and millions are expected to be affected in the weeks and months to come.

In the words of this Venezuelan reporter, "every Venezuelan is going to be affected by this."

I called a friend in Chicago and, like other Venezuelans around the world, he's watching in anguish, not able to return and help because of his own precarious status in the U.S. (the Supreme Court has allowed the administration to end TPS for Venezuelans in 2025).

The need for help is immense and urgent.

If you, like me, feel called to do something, consider donating to these three organizations.

According to my friend, most Venezuelans in the diaspora are supporting these particular organizations because of their credibility.

I'm planning to lead a group trip to Jordan this Fall to help communities there rebound from a year spent without work.

Help me gauge the interest for this trip by taking a quick poll below.

(And see what this World Cup has meant to Jordan here.)

Would you be interested in coming to Jordan with me this October?
